5. **Publish** the advertisement

## Organizing with Advertisers

### Using Advertiser Taxonomy

For better organization when managing multiple ads:

1. Access **Advertisers** in the Newsletter settings
2. Create advertiser categories (e.g., "Premium Partners", "Local Businesses")
3. Assign ads to appropriate advertisers
4. Makes finding and managing ads easier with many campaigns

## Inserting Ads in Newsletters

### Add Newsletter Ad Block

1. In the newsletter editor, add a new block
2. Search for **Newsletter Ad**
3. Insert the block where you want the advertisement

### Select Advertisement

1. Click on the Newsletter Ad block
2. In the sidebar, choose which ad to display or click Automatic selection
3. The ad will appear in the newsletter at that position, you can check it out how it looks when clicking Preview

### Filtering ads by ACF fields

If the newsletter ad post type has any ACF **Select** fields configured on it, each of those fields automatically appears as a filter dropdown in the ad block sidebar. The filters narrow down which ads are available, and apply both to the manual ad picker and to the automatic selection that runs when no specific ad is chosen.

- Each ACF Select field on newsletter ads becomes one filter dropdown, labelled with the field's label.
- The default option is "Not filtered" (no restriction on this field).
- If the ACF field has the "Allow null" validation enabled, an additional "Not set" option appears, which matches ads that have no value selected for that field.
- Both single-value and multi-value ACF Select fields are supported.
- Only ACF Select fields are used as filters. Other ACF field types (text, number, true/false, etc.) are ignored.
- Setting a filter to a value that no existing ad matches will leave the manual ad dropdown empty; clear the filter or pick a different value to see ads again.

For background on how to configure ACF fields and field groups for a custom post type, see [Create Custom Fields in Purple Hub](docId\:Sfolj8v8QCn3M3JiBzBuk).

## Controlling Automatic Ads

Ads can be inserted into a newsletter automatically, without adding ad blocks by
hand. You control this in three places, from a single newsletter up to the whole
site.

### Per newsletter

In the newsletter editor, the **Advertising** panel in the right sidebar has an
**Enable automatic insertion of ads** toggle. While it is on, eligible ads are
placed into the newsletter automatically when it is sent or previewed. Turn it
off to keep that newsletter free of automatically inserted ads.

The toggle is forced off (and disabled) when the newsletter already contains a
manually added ad block, so manual and automatic ads never mix.

### As a template default

The on/off state of **Enable automatic insertion of ads** is saved together with
the newsletter template. When you use *Save new layout* or *Update layout*, the
current setting is stored on that template, and every newsletter created from it
starts with the same default.

This lets a project ship templates that have automatic ads switched off by
default, without changing the global behaviour for everyone.

### Disabling ads completely

To turn off the whole advertisement mechanism for the site, enable **Disable**
**advertisements** in the Newsletter Settings (see: [Setup + Configuration](docId\:g78OzV8d90JalackflUzx)).
When this is on:

- the **Ads** menu is hidden,
- the **Advertising** panel no longer appears in the newsletter editor, and
- no ads are inserted into any newsletter.

## Benefits of the Ad System

- **Reusability** - Create once, use in multiple newsletters
- **Consistency** - Standardized ad formatting
- **Easy Updates** - Change ad content in one place
- **Organization** - Categorize by advertiser for easy management

## Ad Display Behavior

- All recipients see the same advertisement (no dynamic targeting in current version)
- Ads display as linked images
- Click tracking depends on your mail service provider

### Best Practices

- Prepare ad images in appropriate dimensions for email
- Test ad links before sending
- Use the preview function to verify ad placement
- Consider ad position relative to content for optimal engagement
