## Overview

The Post Inserter Block is the core feature that makes newsletter creation efficient. It allows you to automatically pull existing articles into your newsletter without manual copying and pasting.

### Adding the Post Inserter Block

1. In the newsletter editor, click to add a new block
2. Search for **Post Inserter**
3. Add the block to your newsletter

## Configuring Post Display

### Content Settings

In the sidebar panel for the Post Inserter Block, configure what elements to display. Some are predefined, but this list can be fine-tuned for your specific needs, as seen in [Post Inserter Block Customization](docId\:R3IL7Z-Av9DcvFg01MpYl). Some available elements are:

- **Post Title** - Show/hide article titles
- **Post Subtitle** - Include subtitles if available
- **Post Excerpt** - Display article excerpts
 - Set **Maximum number of words** for auto-generated excerpts, with a customized default value
- **Post Content** - Show full article content
- **Date** - Display publication date
- **Featured Image** - Include article images
- **Author Name** - Show article authors
- **Continue Reading Link** - Add links to full articles on your site, with a customized label

###

## Select the Articles in the Insert Posts block

There are two ways to select the posts in the insert posts block:

- Automatic by applying filter options and amount control
- Specific post selection

**Pease note: **Only published or scheduled articles can be added to a newsletter

### Publication Status Toggle

By default, only published articles can be selected for newsletters. To include articles scheduled for future publication, enable the **"Allow scheduled posts"** toggle in the sidebar settings. See also [Frontend Links in Purple Hub](docId\:WZ7W_0fOkon0MlpxUpgvV).

When this toggle is enabled:

- Scheduled articles appear in *automatic* filtering results
- Scheduled articles can be found and selected in the *specific* post picker

:::hint{type="warning"}
**Important:** If your newsletter includes scheduled articles, ensure the newsletter send time is after the scheduled article publish time. Otherwise, links to those articles may not work correctly for recipients.
:::

### Automatic post selection

**Filter Options**

- **Date Range** - Show articles from specific time periods
- **Publication Status** - Published articles only
- **Categories, Tag, and other custom taxonomies** - these can be filtered under the "Advanced Filters"
 - the shown inputs here depend on the selected post types: only taxonomies that belong to these post types are displayed
 - for each taxonomy, there is an *include* list and an *exclude* list. Both are applied, so that in the final posts list, only those turn up that have *all* the *included* taxonomy terms, but *none* of the *excluded* terms.

**Amount Control**

:::Paragraph{indent="1"}
Use the slider to set the number of articles to display (typically 1-10 articles).
:::

### Date Range Filter

The date range filter lets you restrict the Post Inserter to articles published within a given time window. The filter has two modes — **absolute** and **relative** — controlled by the *Relative date filter* toggle in the block sidebar.

Either side (From / To) can be left empty for an open-ended range.

**Absolute mode (default)**

You pick a fixed *From date* and *To date*. These dates are saved with the newsletter and never change on their own — useful when the newsletter should always show the same range.

**Relative mode**

Instead of fixed dates, you specify each border as a number of *days from today*:

- `0` = today
- `-7` = a week ago
- `+3` = three days into the future (useful for newsletters that include scheduled articles)

Below each offset input, a small helper shows the date it currently resolves to.

The range re-resolves to today-relative dates **every time the newsletter is opened in the editor**. This is what makes a layout saved with a relative range still produce a current window when you apply it to a new newsletter days or weeks later — see [Create New + Use Templates](docId:_FHNhRoXCLRDjS-DDXzrH)

**Switching modes**

- Switching **absolute → relative** converts any filled-in dates into offsets relative to today.
- Switching **relative → absolute** freezes the last-resolved dates as fixed values and clears the offsets.

### Filtering by a Specific Date

When an administrator has enabled the Specific Date Filter (see [Post Inserter Block Customization](docId\:R3IL7Z-Av9DcvFg01MpYl)), each Post Inserter block gains a **Use specific date filter** toggle.

With this toggle on, the block no longer uses the from/to **Date Range Filter**. Instead it includes only content that is valid on the newsletter's own **publish date**, based on the **Valid from** / **Valid until** dates set on each piece of content. Because the newsletter's publish date is used, you can build a newsletter days in advance and it will still show exactly the content that is valid on the day it goes out.

A few things to note:

- The newsletter must have a **publish date** set (it does not need to be scheduled or sent yet). Until one is set, the block stays empty and shows a hint asking you to set a publish date.
- All taxonomy and other filters still apply on top of the date filter. The **Show Advanced Filters** button shows a "(N active)" badge so you can tell at a glance whether extra filters are narrowing the results.

### Specific Post Selection

::Image[]{src="https://app.archbee.com/api/optimize/ygR6KtT9QI_R0u3uKTJsm/hUrFve9Wo_LLVD6-CaM0_-20251022-094435.png" size="56" width="816" height="512" position="center" caption="specific post selection" alt="specific post selection" darkWidth="816" darkHeight="512" showCaption="true"}

Alternatively, enable **Display Specific Posts**:

1. Toggle on this option
2. Use the search bar to find individual articles
3. Select exactly which posts to include

## Style

Each Post Inserter Block can have its own styling:

- Text style
- Heading style
- Subtitle style
- Advanced CSS style

##

::Image[]{src="https://app.archbee.com/api/optimize/ygR6KtT9QI_R0u3uKTJsm/fuAADtQ0REnttDpDlafad-20251022-094619.png" size="52" width="814" height="1062" position="center" caption="text style" alt="text style" darkWidth="814" darkHeight="1062" showCaption="true"}

It would be adviced to save these styles once with the Layout.

### Insert Posts

![insert posts](https://app.archbee.com/api/optimize/ygR6KtT9QI_R0u3uKTJsm/cpswr65KnyRGA35CawCG9-20251022-095126.png "insert posts")

The posts inserter has an option to 'Insert Posts'. It is **not necessary** to do this before an email is sended. However it can be handy if there is a need to:

- Change texts
- Change styles

**Please note:** When clicking insert posts, this cannot be reversed and the posts inserter block will turn into regular mark-up blocks.

**Advanced tip:** If you want to save a Posts Inserter Block with a specific styling, please use the Editors 'Create Pattern' functionality. In this case the Posts Inserter Block is saved as a Pattern that you can add from the left side bar under my Patterns.
