Link Optimiser
Purple Link Optimiser
The Link Optimiser is our tool for displaying link and affiliate recommendations for a selected article.
It consists of two sections, the article preview on the left side, and the recommendations section on the right side.
The left side shows a preview of the article and all highlighted phrases for which links are available.
The Statistics button shows simple count-based statistics for the current article, including character count and the amounts of different kinds of links, so that editors can quickly verify the relations between them.
Links generated via the Purple Boost Link Optimiser can be edited here (in dark blue). External links (i.e. links that were already contained in an article or inserted via a CMS) are highlighted in a light gray tone, and can not be modified.
Clicking on a Purple Boost link shows the corresponding link recommendations on the right side of the window. Purple Boost links can be deleted using the "X" symbol.
Important note: All changes must be applied using the Save button at the top.
The right side contains the tools needed to generate and select link recommendations. If your account is configured for both link and affiliate recommendations, the All Links/Article Links/Product Links tabs can be used to filter links by their type.
Note: If your account is configured for both link and affiliate recommendations, you will have to select either of the Article Links or Product Links tabs in the upper right before you can start generating links.
The Generate Links button uses the currently selected profile to automatically select phrases from the article and then generate matching suggestions.
When there are already some links, this button can be used to Generate More Links, so that additional link recommendations are generated and displayed next to the currently shown ones. Via a dropdown on the right side of the button, you also have the option to Generate New Links. This removes existing recommendations before generating a set of new ones.
The dropdown selector in the top right can be used to select a Profile Management. If no profile is selected, a default profile will be used instead.
Hovering the info icon next to the dropdown selector shows a tooltip explaining the settings of the currently selected profile. The values shown here represent the sliders from the profile editing page. For soft filter settings, a small blue bar indicates the relative importance of this criterion. See Profile Management for an overview of the meaning of these entries.
Selecting a phrase from the article text causes a Get Recommendation button to appear on the right. Clicking the button generates a set of recommendations for the selected phrase only.
Recommendations can be fine-tuned using the recommendation boxes on the right. Here you can quickly preview the linked content and modify the recommendation.
The top right of the screen contains a Expand/Collapse button, that can be used to quickly collapse all recommendation boxes to their title bar. This is helpful to gain a quick overview of the selected phrases and generated recommendations.
Recommendation boxes
The title bar contains multiple items, from left to right:
- Link Icon: indicates the type of link (article or product). Clicking the icon brings the matching selection in the article into focus.
- Expand/collapse button: Clicking expands or collapses the preview card.
- Selection: phrase from the text that will be turned into a link. Can also be clicked to expand/collapse the preview card.
- Score: hovering over this reveals the score of this recommendation in relation to the article and selected profile.
- Delete button: used to delete this recommendation
The cogwheel icon inside the recommendation box can be used to select a different profile and regenerate recommendations for a specific selection (see also Profile Management).
Link recommendations can be deleted using the "X" button in the upper right. A reason for deleting this recommendation should then be selected, so that the Link Optimizer system can learn and improve itself.
Connection lines
As a visual aid, connecting lines indicate which recommendation on the right side belongs to which highlighted phrase on the left side..
